We support Samaritan Ministries and Christian Healthcare Ministries.
Annual Membership Fees:
|18-39 years old:||$750|
|40-59 years old:||$1,200|
|60+ years old:||$1,600|
Membership may be paid in a single payment or in monthly installments through bank draft or credit card.
Sentinel Primary Care operates based on your membership fee rather than based on insurance reimbursement, so we don’t bill insurance for your visits. That means you’ll have no co-pays or other bills for visits; your visits are covered under the membership fee! This also means that people with all insurance plans including Medicare are welcome. Read more about our model on our FAQ page.
Because vaccines can be expensive to purchase we will bill private insurance for vaccinations as an out-of-network provider. We are unable to bill Medicare for vaccines, so if you have Medicare you can obtain vaccines at your pharmacy or you can obtain them at Sentinel Primary Care for a discounted cash price.
Health Care Sharing Ministries
We support Health Care Sharing Ministries and will gladly work with individuals with Samaritan Ministries and Christian Healthcare Ministries; we offer substantial discounts on most labs and when requested we will provide documentation of the professional fees that would have been billed in a traditional fee-for-service model.
We offer two types of one-time visits: a sick visit and a consultation. You can use these visits to address the issue at hand, meet Dr. O’Connell & the office staff, and see if the practice is a good fit; the visit is a temporary membership!
Sick visit: like when you go to urgent care, you can address a new illness or injury through our sick visit. A cough, urinary tract infection, twisted ankle, and rash are all examples of what you can address in a sick visit with us. The cost is $100, and if you join the practice within 6 months we’ll apply the fee to your annual membership. Note that a one-time visit fee does not cover outside studies like a chest X-ray or bloodwork, which will be billed the radiology office, lab, etc that performs the test.
Consultation: our consultation is a longer visit, intended to address a more involved topic where you want Dr. O’Connell to review a medical issue with you to give a second opinion or his thoughts on the issue. The cost is $250 for a one-hour visit, and if you join the practice within 6 months we’ll apply the fee to your annual membership. Please bring any prior medical records with you that you want Dr. O’Connell to review as part of the consultation. Because the visit is a one-time review rather than ongoing management of a medical problem, Dr. O’Connell will not order studies, prescribe medication, or make referrals as part of the consultation.
For our charitable care patients we charge one hour of minimum wage for an hour-long annual physical and 30 minutes of minimum wage for 30-minute follow-up and acute visits. Our charitable care services provide primary care for those without health insurance. Although the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) has provided insurance to many people, one in ten North Carolinians still fall in an “in-between” gap: no employer-sponsored health plan, too young for Medicare, too much income for Medicaid, and too little income to buy their own health insurance. Please see our Eligibility Policy for additional information on qualifications for charitable care.
Sentinel Primary Care is a 501(c)(3) non-profit; you can support our service to the uninsured by making a tax-deductible donation.
